New York: Coward-McCann, Inc, 1931. Very good in very good minus dust jacket.. Inscribed first edition of this Gág classic featuring two mice, a knitting ball, and a quest for cheese. Wanda Gág was the eldest daughter of a pair of German immigrant artists, and "was one of the great pioneering printmakers and illustrators of the first half of the twentieth century" (Philadelphia Museum of Art). Gág began to illustrate children's books at the suggestion of Coward-McCann's Ernestine Evans, and the move paid off: Gág earned two Newbery Honors and two Caldecott Honors in addition to various other accolades. SNIPPY AND SNAPPY was her third children's book. (truncated)
