One photo measures 8" x 7" and the second photo measures 10" x 8". Duke Ellington was an American jazz pianist, composer, and leader of his eponymous jazz orchestra from 1923 through the rest of his life.
Ellington gained a national profile through his orchestra's appearances at the Cotton Club in Harlem. One image captures Ellington charismatically playing piano, where the other captures him smiling towards the camera in a plaid suit. Annotations on the versos of both images, and faint blue (truncated) pen annotations on the blank white margin below one image. In very good condition. (Inventory #: 19206)
