Berlin: Typis Academicis, 1839. FIRST EDITION. Blue wrappers, printed spine label; a few leaves foxed. An uncut copy in good condition. First edition of Jacobi's scarce work on prime numbers, one of only two books published during his lifetime. The present text does not appear in his collected works. Jacobi (1804-51) was professor of mathematics at Königsberg and Berlin, and was one of the greatest teachers of his generation.
