Catherine Beecher was the eldest daughter in one of the most remarkable families of the 19th century. Catherine was the daughter of Lyman Beecher and the sister of Henry Ward Beecher and Harriet Beecher Stowe. This book was Beecher's major work and went through 15 editions. Treatise was the first American work to deal with all aspects of domestic life, helping to standardize domestic practices and reinforce domestic values.
