One of the earliest Lesbian plays: Girls in Uniform, (Mädchen in Uniform) 1939

Title page states "Adapted by Barbara Burnham from the German play "Gestern Und Heute" upon which the film "Madchen In Uniform" is also based. Octavo. Bound in red cloth boards, housed in a white dust jacket with black title lettering. A young Jessica Tandy is credited in the original cast list for the production at The Duchess Theatre in London, and is presumably pictured at front dust jacket which features a black and white still from the production. This drama was adapted by Barbara Burnham from the (truncated) famous German play, "Gestern Und Heute", and is of a sensitive girl sent to an all-girls boarding school who falls in love with one of her teachers. "Gestern Und Heute" was the basis for the German produced film, Madchen in Uniform, one of the earliest narrative films to explicitly portray Lesbianism; This English version of the original German play was adapted after the film. The dust jacket has small tears and chips on top and bottom edges and missing small sections including 2" of spine titling. Clean and bright pages, this book in in very good condition overall.
