[LGBTQ][Cross-Dressing][Magazines and Periodicals] Three issues of 1990s queer and cross-dressing magazine "Dragazine". West Hollywood, CA: Lois Commondenominator et al., 1995–1996. Three issues: Nos. 7–9 (complete run of extant issues). Stapled pictorial wrappers. Profusely illustrated in black-and-white. Archive of Dragazine, a vibrant and transgressive 1990s drag underground magazine. Self-billed as “The Magazine for Halloweeners and Inbetweeners,” Dragazine chronicled queer nightlife and performance through an unapologetically camp lens. Edited by West Hollywood drag performer and scene documentarian Lois Commondenominator, and produced with contributions (truncated) from a veritable who's who of West Coast queer culture—including Randy Bouchet, Candy Dish, Darvon Crude, Ken Dickmann, and Sybil Disobedience—Dragazine stood apart in its total commitment to the celebration of drag as both performative disruption and cultural archive. Each issue features themed editorial spreads, interviews, photographic documentation of queer events, and tributes to foundational figures in LGBTQ+ drag performance. Archive include:

[1] Dragazine, No. 7: "Stop That or You'll Go Blond". With an extended tribute to Charles Pierce, pioneer of drag celebrity impersonation; features on The Chanel Twins, Dame Ednot, and Barbra by Halstead; includes club photos and “Mrs. Doubtfire” media satire.

[2] Dragazine, No. 8: “As Seen on TV”. Featuring Lana Luster on the cover and an in-depth essay on Ethyl Eichelberger by Joe E. Jeffreys, situating Eichelberger within the lineage of postwar experimental theater. Other profiles include Jim Bailey, Pagan Holiday, and The Cycle Sluts.

[3] Dragazine, No. 9: “More Than Meets the Eye Shadow”. Featuring Jackie Beat ("Tour de Fierce") on the cover, with extensive coverage of the 7th Annual Battle for the Tiara, plus pieces on Holly Woodlawn, Sherry Vine, Eartha Madre, and Doonesbury’s drag satire.

Collectively, Dragazine documents a crucial, liminal moment in LGBTQ+ and drag history—after the height of AIDS activism but before the mainstreaming of drag performance. The magazine’s combination of humor, history, and fierce critique offers insight into how drag functioned as resistance, satire, and self-invention during an era when most queer representation remained marginal or stereotyped.
