One of 150 copies, folio size, 18 pp., signed by Hans Ulrich and Ludwig Mohr. Publius Ovidius Naso (43 BCE - 17/18 CE) is perhaps best known today for his "Metamorphoses", as well as "The Art of Love". In this work, "The Art of Beauty", Ovid "defends the use of cosmetics by Roman women and provides five recipes for facial treatments" (n.b., from Wiki). The text used is from an anonymous English translation first published in London in 1709.

This publication designed by Ludwig Mohr (who also did (truncated) the binding) and Phillip T. Bevis, the woodcut illustrations were printed directly from the blocks; overall a lovely production.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full grey laid paper over boards, two illustrations by Ulrich on the boards (which mirror two in the text), vellum spine, title page and text pages presented in both Latin and English, with the Latin on the left (versos) in sienna and English on the right (rectos) in black, six illustrations by Ulrich bound in throughout; printed letterpress, binding folio size (13 1/8" by 9 1/2"), pagination: [1-4] 5-16 [1, blank] [1, colophon]; limited edition of 150 copies, this no. 26, signed by Hans Ulrich and Ludwig Mohr.

___CONDITION: Fine, the boards clean, the vellum smooth and clean, straight corners without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, and as new.
