Schaufelberger (1881-1968) of Fostoria, Ohio on fly-leaf. First and only edition. This short text is intended by the author to showcase up-to-date improvements in the administration and preparation of various anaesthetics. The author starts with a short history of the subject, with details on Dr. Colton’s efforts to re-introduce nitrous oxide as an anaesthetic. For prolonged anaesthesia, Freeman treats sulphuric ether, chloroform, bichloride of methylene, with a discussion of the physiological action of these substances. He next showcases various appliances for use in administering anaesthesia, all of which are illustrated in the text. The illustrations include the means of actually placing devices in the body. A short bibliography follows the text.
