- Paris: Bailliere et fils, 1897
Paris: Bailliere et fils, 1897. FIRST EDITION. With 5 full-page and 14 text illustrations (2 plates sepia-coloured). Original front printed wrapper (extremely browned) bound into later half-vellum over boards, small tear in spine; sporadic brtowning throughout. First edition. The author incorporates the most up-to-date medical and scientific discoveries and applies them to this outstanding contribution to forensic pathology. Of major significance is his use of “Röntgen Rays” to uncover the often undetectable crime of infanticide. This was possibly the earliest medico-legal treatises to use x-rays to carry out analytical investigations.
Brouardel (1837-1905), professor of legal medicine at the University of Paris, was one of the most notable experts on forensic medicine of the period. Many of his findings are still being used today.
Brittain, Bibliographie des travaux Français de medecine legale, 153a (4); Garrison & Morton, 1752; Nemec, Highlights of Medico-Legal Relations, 469a.
