Esmarch (1823-1908) was a professor of surgery and surgeon general to the German Army during the Franco-Prussian war in 1870.He was known for his invention of an illustrated bandage designed so that soldiers and medics needing it under stressful conditions didn’t have to search for instructions on how to use it.
