M. Val. Martialis nova editio. Ex museo Petri Scriverii. (with) P. Scriverii animadversiones in Martialem
- Leyden: Joannem Maire, 1619
Leyden: Joannem Maire, 1619. Half-vellum over marbled boards; interior lightly browned with minor stains and a few tears. An unknown annotator (T8v) refers to Claudius Salmasius's Plinanae exercitationes of 1629 or 1689. From the library of the noted and distinguished French classicist and Greek scholar Jean François Boissande de Fontarabie (1774-1857). His image is pictured in Sandys' A History of Classical Scholarship, Cambridge, 1908, III, p. 248. He is best known for his work as an editor of Greek texts, including the editiones principes of Babrius and Maximus Planudes's Greek translation of Ovid's Metamorphoses (Sandys, pp. 249-50). Another signature of Schwin[...]', front paste-down, plus other assorted marks. Scriverius (1576-1660), an independent scholar, remains best known for this, his edition with commentary of the Roman epigrammatist Marcus Valerius Martialis. His edition possesses additional interest to scholars because of quotations from Josephus Scaliger (1540-1609).
