Paris: A.J. Dugour et Durand, 1798. SECOND OCTAVO EDITION. With 20 engraved plates (19 folding). Contemporary pasteboards, worn at corners and spine; interior with occasional browning and spotting. From the library of Jerry Stannard. Originally printed in 1783, this second octavo of the Dictionnaire was meant to be an introductory work to Bulliard’s Herbier de la France. The plates were drawn by Bulliard himself, as was most often the case. A very popular work, it went through several editions including an English translation.
Bulliard (1742-93) was a pupil of Jean Jacques Rousseau and became one of the foremost French botanists of the eighteenth century.
Hunt, II, pt. II, 667; Plesch, pp. 33-34; Pritzel, 1355; Stafleu, 910.
