Appolonius of Perga (fl. ca. 200 BCE) is usually associated with the development of the eccentric circle (in which the center of the circle is not the center of the earth) and the deferent-epicycle model (in which a planet is described as moving on a point on a circle, known as an epicycle, whose center is moving on yet another circle, known as a deferent).
