Chauncey Jerome (1793-1868) was a very successful clockmaker in early 19th century New England. After serving as an apprentice for other clock makers, he started his own business around 1820, and in less than 20 years was selling more clocks than anyone else. However, after buying a bankrupt clock company in Bridgeport, his business failed and he would end up broke by the time he died in 1868. The present work presents his life story, including the events that led to his financial downfall.
