Full page copper-engraved allegorical frontispiece by Giovanni Baronio depicting Personifications of Rome, seated on the chariot of Justice and Fortitude and led by the Roman wolf mounted by Romulus and Remus, and God in arc of heaven above with the keys to the basilica of Rome. 6 copper-engraved plates (5 folding) depicting battle victory for Marcus Aurelius, various fibula in the Museo Auctoris, a Roman bath house, a Roman funeral procession and a procession for a bull sacrifice. 1 copper-engraved text vignette depicting the scene of Christs feet anointed by the Magdalen, woodcut arms of Pope Innocent X on title, and 28 woodcuts in text of coins, utensils and other equipment, Roman inhabitants or rituals. Period vellum over boards, paper labels to spine; (occasional spotting and browning, one plate browned, vellum a bit stained, with some loss to rear panel and spine tips). Internally crisp and clean. Contemporary ownership inscription in Latin to front flyleaf and illegible library stamp to margin of frontispiece.
