Johanson Rare Books is owned and operated by Donald and Teresa Johanson. They have been selling old and rare books since 1977 when they opened their rare book business in Baltimore, Maryland. They specialize in Early Printed Books, English and American Literature, Travel and Voyages, Medical Books, and French Books. They are open Monday through Friday from ten till four thirty; weekend appointments are possible. In addition, The Johansons offer appraisal services and collection development services. Donald and Teresa Johanson were English professors in colleges in Virginia; in 1977 they decided to leave the academic world and open an old and rare bookshop in Baltimore, Maryland - a long-time dream of Donald's. From 1977 until 2003, the Johansons owned and ran Kelmscott Bookshop - a large shop with a stock of 30,000 books. In 2003, the Johansons decided to sell Kelmscott Bookshop and to open Johanson Rare Books with the idea of concentrating only on rare and fine books. They have operated Johanson Rare Books since then; they issue lists and catalogs in a wide variety of fields; offer appraisal services and collection development services and travel the world in search of rare books.
