Ben Raeburn (1914–1997), founder of Horizon Press in New York, was among the most perceptive and independent publishers of the postwar period. His press issued first American editions and finely produced volumes by figures such as Ezra Pound, Marianne Moore, Allen Ginsberg, Denise Levertov, and James Agee, bridging literary modernism and the emerging voices of mid-century America. Raeburn’s editorial judgment and craftsmanship earned Horizon Press a reputation for quality equal to its larger contemporaries. He also produced 8 distinct Frank Lloyd Wright titles. The catalogue offers forty-five titles associated with his personal library—thirty-five inscribed to him—representing a direct record of the relationships and correspondence that defined New York’s literary culture from the 1950s through the 1980s.
